Eurotrip 2025: Singapore layover
We've just set off on a nice long holiday to Europe. This is the first of a few posts I hope to make on the road :)
Singapore Day 1
We started off our trip with a long layover in Singapore, to break up the trip and to also spend time with my friend Ka (and eat good food).
Our hotel was in the Rochor area of Singapore and we had a great local hawker centre right across the road, so we had our first meal at the Tekka Centre – a delicious Chicken Biriyani.
Ka then took us to have a nice traditional desert of bean curd and fried dough which was great!
Singapore Day 2
We started the day with some Kopi C, Kaya toast and soft boiled eggs, which were cheap and delicious! If I have time in the airport on the way back I need to get myself some Kaya jam.
We then met up with Ka at another hawker centre (Circuit Road) and shared some food, including a Chinese herbal soup with an array of vegetables, wild mushrooms and figs.
After lunch we headed to Bird Paradise. It's such an awesome bird park with a wide variety of birds aviaries that you can walk right into amongst all the birds flying around you and the ceiling of the aviary was so far into the sky!
There were a lot of cool (and weird) birds:
Check out this body shape! He was raised in captivity and kept following the keepers around.
You aren't supposed to touch the birds but that doesn't mean they won't jump on you and refuse to get off.
Meaner than he looks.
Flamingo party!
A perfectly balanced duck and some pink ibis.
A million macaws.
Group photo time!
My favourite bird, it was so iridescent and shone in the sunlight. Check out the video!
And a sleepy little African Grey parrot.
I tried to capture the essence of my favourite birds in watercolour form.
That's all for now. Stay tuned for stories from Milan!
